Lake County is Hiring a Cook Near Vernon, IL

The general function of the position within the organization is to perform moderately complex work related to preparing foods on a large-scale/commercial basis. The position is responsible for the preparation of food for consumption; cleaning the cooking area; and serving food on a tray. This position is under moderate supervision.
Hours of Work 
  • 20 hours per week
  • Weekends and Holidays
  • Hours vary between 6:30am-6:30pm
  • Prepare and oversee the production of hot or cold meals in a timely fashion as determined by food service standard operating procedures and in compliance with state standards
  • Accurately weigh, measure and properly follow recipes in producing standardized products/meals
  • Report unsafe kitchen conditions suggest possible solutions to hazards and monitor progress toward resolution of issues
  • Operate kitchen equipment and perform preventative maintenance duties if necessary and report malfunctioning equipment for corrective action; ensure all equipment is operating appropriately and safely
  • Remove foods from freezer on a semi-weekly basis and according to a scheduled time frame provided in standard operating procedures
  • Operate various types of kitchen equipment; clean and prepare serving and eating areas including utensils
  • Ensure security and safety regulations are followed regarding resident contact and distribution of food
  • Clean tables, equipment and kitchen area; ensure all work areas are in a sanitary condition in accordance with local and state regulations
  • Illinois Department of Public Health Sanitation Certificate training required
  • High School Diploma
  • GED
  • Experience working in the food service industry preferred
